New Delhi: President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam on Sunday condemned the killing of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MP Sunil Kumar Mahato and three others in Jharkhand's East Singhbhum district. "The President condemns the incident in which Mr. Mahato and three others were killed," Rashtrapati Bhavan spokesman S.M. Khan told PTI. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh also condemned the killing. "The Prime Minister has condemned the killing of Jamshedpur MP Sunil Mahato," a Prime Minister's Office spokesman said.

Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee expressed deep shock over the killing and recounted Mr. Mahato's active participation on issues concerning the people in general and tribals in particular.
Bodyguards taken away
Raju Giri, general secretary of JMM's central committee, said two other bodyguards of the MP had been taken away by the rebels. JMM general secretary Prashant Mandal said: "The career of an up and coming political leader has been cut short by the frustrated elements. But the perpetrators will not succeed in their violence."
