Saving victims To check fatalities due to road accidents the highway patrol teams of Cyberbad should be equipped with first aid kits and medical teams. Their vehicles should have facilities of ambulances, which will go a long way in reducing the time in extending emergency medicare to accident victims. Also the victims' information should be given on local radio, so that relatives can be alerted. The patrolling personnel should be trained in first aid and emergency measures. Prakash,KPHB What about refund? The I-T Department insists on filing returns on the fixed dates. But it is not prompt in refunding excess tax paid. Thousands of cases are pending in the I-T offices. Unless one goes to these offices and pursues it files don't move. There seems to be no check by higher authorities as to why refund cases are pending over several months. The I-T Department is requested to look into the issue. K.V. Ramanma, Ramnagar Avoidable air pollution It is surprising how the municipal authorities and the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Board has not tackled the serious problem of air pollution in the twin cities by sweepers using short brooms. The dust churned out is suffocating and finds its way into houses making life of the inmates miserable. The dust is also damaging sensitive appliances. M.I. Suryanarayana, Punjagutta `Secular' issue Sitaram Yechury of the CPI (M) had taken serious objection to the use of Pantha Nirapeksha for the English word `secular' in the speech delivered by the President at the opening of the budget session of the Parliament. Dharma Nirapeksha means unconcern for Dharma, not wanting dharma. Which sane person does not want righteousness? T. Mani Chowdary, Karkhana Not `interested' Apropos one advertisement of Andhra Bank, I went to Narayanguda branch to cancel my existing fixed deposits fetching 7.75 % interest and got it converted to "AB Supreme term 3 year deposit scheme" with rate of interest of 9 % with 0.50 % additional interest for senior citizens. My joy diminished when I was told that under this scheme, no monthly interest is payable. Hopefully I will survive for 3 more years to get the final lumpsum amount as I am already 70 plus. I hope the bank will consider request and change the scheme with monthly interest. R.M.V.Bharath, Bagh Amberpet
