Holi celebrated with fervour

KOCHI: Holi, the festival of colours, was celebrated with fervour in the city on Sunday. Holi seems to have caught up in a big way with the residents of Kochi.

Broadway reverberated with the beats of dholak as people of all ages joined in the celebrations. While some played Holi with just `gulal' (colours), some sprayed coloured water. The festival was not restricted to the North Indian communities here.

Holi special `thandai' (chilled drink) was also served. Sweets such as `gujiya' and `malpuas' were made in most of the households where Holi was celebrated in a traditional manner. The Navy held a Holi get-together for its officers at the Naval Sailing Club.
