`Do not open barrage now'

KOCHI: The Kerala Nadi Samrakshana Samiti has urged authorities not to open the gates of the Bhoothathankettu barrage now to prevent slushy sediments in the reservoir washing down to the Aluva-Eloor region. Samiti general secretary C.M. Joy said sediments from the Kallarkutty reservoir were washed down the Periyar in December and the drinking water had got muddied for weeks together. To check such an eventuality the barrage should not be opened now, he said.

Fish stall opened at IOC outlet

KOCHI: An air-conditioned fish stall has been set up at the petrol outlet of Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) Ltd. at North Paravur. The 24-hour stall is attached to the fuel house situated on the Kochi-Mangalore national highway. The stall is the first of its kind at an IOC petrol outlet, according to a press release.

GAIL's initiative

KOCHI: Gas Authority of India Ltd. (GAIL) has donated Rs.5 lakh to Raksha Special School for physically challenged children. M.R. Hingnikar, Director (HR), GAIL, visited the school. GAIL had also extended its support to the Janseva Sisu Bhavan and Don Bosco Sneha Bhavan as part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiative.
