Centre seeks report
New Delhi:
The Centre has sought a report from the Jharkhand Government on the killing of JMM MP Sunil Kumar Mahato.
The Union Home Ministry is understood to have asked the Chief Secretary and the Director-General of Police to submit a report by Monday. Home Minister Shivraj Patil condemned the killing of Mr. Mahato and described the incident as a cowardly act of naxalites.
A Ministry of Home Affairs spokesman said that the security establishment would not be cowed down by such incidents.
``The Government will continue to pursue its multi-pronged strategy to fight the naxals,'' he said.
The Centre is in touch with the Jharkhand Government and has assured it all assistance to deal with the situation. — PTI
