Bangalore: Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy has promised Government's help and support to institutions that provide education to disabled children. He was speaking after inaugurating the 30th anniversary celebrations of Dr. S.R. Chandrashekhar Institute of Speech and Hearing here on Saturday. The Minister said that he would ensure that the institute, which had been working for the cause of education of the disabled persons for the past 30 years, received all help from the Government. He said with the Government being pre-occupied with its own problems, the needs and demands of the institutions working in the field were often forgotten. He promised that he would take steps to ensure that such things did not recur. Dr. Chandrashekhar, patron-in-chief, spoke about the institution. He said several IT companies had been extending help to the institution. This had enabled it to provide education to many disabled children in the State. The institution had conducted several awareness programmes and organised free camps to detect hearing disorders in children. A full-fledged hostel for children would be built soon for which Infosys had given a grant of Rs. 5 lakh. Secretary of the institution Ramachandra was felicitated. Meritorious students were honoured on the occasion. M.S. Venkatesh, chairman, and M.N. Nagaraja, director, were present.
