ERODE: Farmers are put to hardship because of the increasing copper wire theft. The district administration should take action against the culprits, said V.M. Velayutham, president of Kalingarayan Farmers Association. At the Kalingarayan farmers meeting held at Kombanaipudur recently, he said that in 77 places, copper wires fitted from electric motors to starters were lifted away by the culprits. In each place, a minimum of 180 metres of wire was stolen. Besides loss, the farmers found it very difficult to operate the motors. The meeting said that in some places the police officials were reluctant to accept the complaints from the farmers. It appealed to the Superintendent of Police to do the needful in this regard.
