  • Committee set up to study proposal

BANGALORE: The State Government has called for corporate involvement in framing curricula for degree courses.

Minister for Industries Katta Subramanya Naidu and Minister for Higher Education D.H. Shankaramurthy on Monday discussed a proposal to include industry-related subjects in colleges. Representatives from Infosys, Wipro, Satyam, Tata Consultancy Services, the Confederation of Indian Industry and the Karnataka Small-scale Industries Association, and vice-chancellors of universities participated in the discussion.

The Government decided to set up a committee headed by K.M. Shivakumar, Principal Secretary, Industries Department, to study the proposal. Both the departments would hold a meeting again in the next 15 days to take a decision on the recommendations made by the panel, Mr. Naidu said.

Mr. Shankaramurthy said many universities were teaching outdated subjects.
