PUDUCHERRY: The French Institute of Pondicherry is conducting an international conference, titled "Averting biodiversity meltdown in the Asian tropics", in collaboration with the Association for Tropical Biology and Conservation Asia (ATBC-Asia) from March 6 to 8. The conference will be held at the GRT-Temple Bay, Mahabalipuram. Participants will visit Puducherry and the French Institute on March 9. According to a press release here, the meeting, convened by Prof. Priya Davidar from the Pondicherry University, will bring together more than 130 scientists and officials from 20 different countries (including China, India, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and the U.S.). This will be effected through ten thematic symposia and several plenary lectures by reference scholars such as Prof. Madhav Gadgil, Indian Institute of Science, and Peter Ashton from Harvard University. A policy forum on March 7 will discuss scientific explanations with senior forest officers from Tamil Nadu and policy makers.
