Armed Reserve Police personnel to get houses soon

THENI: The Armed Reserve Police personnel will soon get houses, as the construction of staff quarters by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation, Madurai, is nearing completion.

The construction of quarters meant for 209 police personnel, including one Deputy Superintendent of Police, one Inspector, four sub-inspectors, 203 head constables and police constables, near Armed Reserve Police ground is being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs.7.74 crore.

The buildings have been constructed in five rows and electricity connection had already been given to all the houses and street-lights have also been installed.

Road and water facility

Laying roads within the premises and provision of drinking water supply were the only pending works. A separate well sunk on Vaigai riverbed at Koonoor village, near the collectorate, would cater to the drinking water requirements of the quarters. A big ground-level tank had been constructed to store the river water for distribution.

The work on laying drinking water main pipeline connecting the supply well and the ground-level tank was being expedited.

Laying approach road from the main road would also be completed soon, said the officials.

The construction work started in December 2005. Officials expressed the hope that the houses would be ready for occupation within two months.
