Thiruvananthapuram: The MPs from the State and the LDF Government should put pressure on the Union Government to get an exclusive railway zone for Kerala, according to BJP State president P. K. Krishnadas.

Inaugurating a State wide `rail bandh' organised by the BJP to protest against the `neglect to Kerala in the Railway Budget' at Thiruvananthapuram Central railway station here on Monday, the BJP leader said Salem should also be included in the railway zone mooted exclusively for the State.

The BJP leader said the State had not got its due share. The 29 MPs and the State Government should put pressure on the Centre for sanctioning new trains and getting adequate funds for the completion of the 61 road over bridges in the State, he said.

BJP district president V. Sivankutty, BJP leaders M.S. Kumar, Karamana Jayan, S. Suresh were among those who spoke. BJP workers later picketed the New Delhi-bound Kerala Express.

BJP leader V.K. Sajeevan inaugurated the picketing at Varkala and Narayanan Nair at Neyyattinkara.

Trains were picketed at Kollam, Kayamkulam, Chengannur, Alappuzha, Cherthala, Harippad, Thiruvalla, Kottayam, Vaikom, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Shoranur, Palakkad, Kuttipuram, Parappnangadi, Kozhikode, Koyilandy, Vadakara, Kannur and Kasaragod.
