Water level

MADURAI: The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 110.70 feet (136 feet) with an inflow of 57 cusecs and a discharge of 242 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 28.54 feet (71 feet) with an inflow of 111 cusecs and a discharge of 41 cusecs.

The combined Periyar credit stood at 984 mcft.

Prisoner assaulted

A prisoner was allegedly assaulted in a minor clash in the Madurai central prison on Sunday.

According to police, a quarrel over a petty issue led to the clash in which S. Chinna Thangam (27) of Dindigul district, lodged in the jail in connection with a theft case, suffered an injury.

The Karimedu police are investigating.

National Safety Day
