SR, IOB qualify

Tuticorin: Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, gave another fine display to overcome ONGC, Dehra Dun, 25-21, 20-25, 25-19, 25-20 in the last men's match in the Vedanta National Volleyball League Championship (Preliminary III) for the Sterlite Trophy here late on Sunday night.

The win helped IOB qualify for the Super League to be held in Kochi. It finished on par with Southern Railway, Chennai, and Muthoot Group Volleyball Club, Kochi, with seven points each (three wins and a loss). The placings were decided on quotient and IOB emerged winner with a quotient of 1.149. Southern Railway qualified as the second team while Muthoot Club finished third. ONGC finished fourth.

Special awards: Men: Attacker: Natarajan (IOB); All-rounder: Sivarajan (S. Rly); Player of the tournament: Kamaraj (ONGC).

Women: Attacker: Joshi Sapna (Eastern Rly); All-rounder: M.K. Prajesha (KSEB).
