KOCHI: The Indian arrivals to Malaysia have shown a double-digit growth in the last five years. Malaysian Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said here on Saturday that more than 2.79 lakh Indians visited Malaysia in 2006 compared to 2.25 lakh in 2005. The total tourism receipts from India surged by over 72% in 2005 over that of the previous year. Tourism is the second largest foreign exchange earner after manufacturing in Malaysia, he said. The Minister launched the `Visit Malaysia Year 2007' campaign. He is heading a delegation to India, as part of the mission to spread awareness of tourism products in Malaysia such as wedding and honeymoon packages, shopping, conferences and exhibitions. Visit Malaysia Year 2007 is a year-long celebration of Malaysia's 50th year anniversary of independence. Malaysian Government aims to attract 20.1 million tourists during the period, of which 400,000 are from India. As part of the campaign, Malaysia is organising 240 events during the year. The events include international aerospace exhibition, international tattoo show and international buskers' festival.
