KOCHI: Aptech Limited expects to substantially increase student intake in Kerala during the current year for both its computer education programme and the multi-media course offered by Arena Multimedia. The company's aviation training centre, Avalon Aviation Academy, would be functional in Kochi from April this year, said Pramod Khera, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Aptech Limited here. He said that the number of students in the computer education programme was expected to go up to 12,000 this year from last year's level of 4,500. Similarly, Arena Multimedia training intake would go up to 5,600 this year from last year's 2,500. Mr. Khera said that Aptech was observing the current year as the Year of Growth. Last year, Aptech logged a turnover of Rs.170 crore and made a profit of Rs.20 crore. The industry growth average was between 25 and 30 per cent, he said. Now there were 11 Arena Multimedia centres in the State. There were also 23 Aptech computer education centres in the State. The number would go up significantly with the establishment of centres in Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. The was also planning to open computer education centres in Kozhikode, Palakkad, Attingal, Kollam and Kasaragod, said Mr. Khera. He said that Aptech was not focussing on industry requirements in a major way and that Aptech had tied up with the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) based in the United States for offering courses. Mr. Khera said that Aptech would operate in close cooperation with the industry.
