Raves and revellers

The report of police action against revellers at a party where drugs were being used was shocking.

More shocking was the news that most revellers were working men and women. With huge money at their disposal and nobody to supervise them, young IT professionals, and children of affluent parents seem to be taking increasingly to drugs. What is more worrying is the misuse of technology for such undesirable activity. Parents, especially working couples, should realise that they cannot afford to neglect their children in their pursuit of money.

Harish Betha,

The foreign nationals involved in the racket should be given stringent punishment. The revellers, most of whom are from the IT sector, should be fined heavily so that they will think twice before embarking on such misadventures in future.

There is an increasing tendency among the youth to celebrate Diwali, Holi, Christmas, and New Year with drugs and liquor. The practice is so widespread that it cannot be tackled by police action alone. Awareness campaigns on the harmful effects of the intoxicants on health and society through the media and NGOs will be of help.

S. Sanjana,
Tiruchi

Such raids are welcome. The police in Goa should take a cue and crack down on the State's notorious acid parties that take place right under their noses.

Kartik Hegde,
Chimbel, Goa
