MADIKERI: The Congress party in Kodagu will be made stronger since all the block committees have been formed, president of the Kodagu District Congress Committee (KDCC) Veena Achaiah, said here on Tuesday. She was speaking to presspersons after releasing the list of office-bearers in Madikeri city, Madikeri rural, Kushalnagar, Somwarpet, Polibetta and Virajpet blocks. The appointment to the posts of the presidents of the six blocks was concluded some time ago. The new list has three vice-presidents, including a woman, a treasurer, six District Congress Committee (DCC) members, including two women and 18 executive committee members, including six women, in each block. Ms. Achaiah said all communities were represented in the newly constituted blocks. In case, some aspirants had been left out, they could be co-opted by the block presidents or the KDCC president at a later date. However, constitution of the DCC would take place within a week as the clearance of the block list was awaited. Office-bearers would be picked from the 36 DCC members, (six in each block), which included 12 women. Senior party leaders would be special invitees for the KDCC affairs, she said. Appointments to various wings of the party had concluded with the zilla panchayat member, Deerghakeshi Shivanna, picked as the president of the district women wing a couple of days ago, Ms. Achaiah said. Candidates to head the District Youth Congress wing and minority cell would be announced soon, she added. The presidents of the six blocks were chosen some time ago. K.M. Ganesh is the president of the Madikeri city, B.U. Poovanna for Madikeri rural, B.S. Chandrashekar for Kushalnagar, Jeremy D'Souza for Somwarpet, K.M. Subramani for Virajpet and Usman Haji for Polibetta. In the Madikeri city block, T.M. Aiyappa, H.S. Yatish Kumar and Veda Harishchandra have been appointed vice-presidents, and K.U. Abdul Razak is treasurer. The six DCC members are B.G. Ganesh Aiyanna, V.P. Suresh, M.E. Hanif, H.M. Nanda Kumar, Kaveramma Somanna and Kaveramma Poovanna.
