Decision to ban students with low attendence flayed

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR : The Student Federation of India has flayed the State Government for its decision to bar Intermediate students, having less than 60 per cent of attendance, from appearing at the public examination. About 8,500 students were barred from writing the examination across the State on Monday.

The Government decision smacked of World Bank policies aimed at privatisation of education, SFI district president and secretary M. Nageswara Rao and D. Lenin said at a press conference on Tuesday.

They criticised Minister for Higher Education Pinnamaneni Venkateswara Rao for taking a last-minute decision in allowing only those students, who paid a penal fee of Rs.500, into the examination hall. The decision taken at the last minute robbed hundreds of students of an opportunity to appear at the examination. They also asked the Government to improve the facilities at the examination centres.
