COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore City Round Table 31, as part of its `Freedom through Education' project, inaugurated a classroom block at SFV Government Higher Secondary School at Seeranaickenpalayam, A.R.Srinivaasan, Head of the Table, told reporters here recently. A similar block was also inaugurated at the Peedampalli Government High School, he added. The Coimbatore City Ladies Circle 16, an association of the wives of the Round Tablers, also contributed to the inauguration of the block at Seeranaickenpalayam. They also donated a multimedia computer and UPS worth Rs. 25,000 to the school. Around 90 sets of desks and benches were donated to the Sugunapuram SFV Erik De Byujin Government School, Palakkad Road, and Seeranaickenpalayam SFV School, Seetha Venkatesh, Head of the Ladies Circle India, said. The Coimbatore City Round Table 31 and the Coimbatore City Ladies Circle 16 have been involved in eradication of illiteracy by providing infrastructure facilities to Government schools. The Round Table's mission is to provide educational facilities to one million people by 2008. The Ladies Circle on the other hand had been actively involved in health and hygiene projects and noon meal schemes in Government schools. The amount spent a year for such activities totalled to Rs.2 crores, Shashikala Anand, Chairperson of Coimbatore City Ladies Circle 16, said.
