NEW DELHI: India should make its effort to conclude Doha Trade talks successfully, Dan Christman, Leader of the U.S. India Business Council (USIBC) and Senior Vice-President, International U.S. Chamber of Commerce, said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the Second Annual Conference on `Indo-US Economic Cooperation: Developing a strategy for Closer Partnership' organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and USIBC, he observed that the U.S. and EU were reaching an agreement on agriculture and expressed the hope that India and Brazil would not oppose progress in NAMA (non-agricultural market access).

Mr. Christman said India should adopt multilateral as well as bilateral strategies to mobilise the global trade opportunities.

Also the U.S. and India needed to work together to understand nuclear liability and strengthen tie-up in the area of defence, he added. He mentioned his plans to visit different states of India, including West Bengal and Tamil Nadu, with 38 business delegates from the U.S.

Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission, said agriculture was going to be the main focus of Government along with development of infrastructure, he said.

U.S. Ambassador David C. Mulford said improving India's agricultural productivity and its agricultural produce markets was one of the key areas for focusing Indo-U.S. intellectual and technical collaboration, through the U.S. - India Agricultural Knowledge Initiative.
