Rupee closes higher against $

MUMBAI: The rupee staged a smart recovery and ended at 44.4650/4750 a dollar, up 16.50 paise from last close, buoyed by a strong bounce in equity markets on the back of emergence of foreign institutional inflow and firm trend in Asian currencies.

The interbank foreign exchange market witnessed fairly good activity and the local currency moved in a range of 44.4650 and 44.5900 after resuming firm at 44.55/57 a dollar from 44.63/64 a dollar. — PTI
