Antony: statement manufactured

A.K. Anthony

New Delhi: Defence Minister A.K. Antony on Tuesday said he had not made any statement that there was a need to adopt a policy of hot pursuit of terrorists across the border.

"I do not know from where the statement was manufactured," he told reporters on the sidelines of an awards function here.

His response came when it was pointed out that some journalists in Pakistan claimed that he had talked about hot pursuit of terrorists across the border.

To a query at a briefing on Monday, Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said: "First of all, we have to check the veracity of the statement. If indeed the statement is true, we are surprised that a statement of this nature, which can only be described as irresponsible, has been made."

Mr. Antony said he had interacted with the media only twice in the past month and had not made any such statement. — PTI
