Sonia praises railway, general budgets
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI
: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday praised both the railway and general budgets.
Addressing the general body meeting of the Congress Party in Parliament, she said the budgets demonstrated the continuing priorities of the United Progressive Alliance Government and reflected its commitment to the "party manifesto." Ms. Gandhi attacked the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies for disrupting the budget session. "They do not seem to be interested in reasonable and dignified discussions. Time and again, whenever contentious issues have arisen, our party and the Government have steadfastly maintained that we are always ready for debate. This remains our position. The kind of disturbance and disruption witnessed since the beginning of the session has only served to harm the legislative agenda of the nation."
Expressing concern at the signs of rising intolerance and communalism in different parts of the country, she asked the party MPs and members to counter proactively attempts to spread disaffection and hatred.
