HASSAN: Minister for Public Works and Power and in charge of Hassan district H.D. Revanna has directed officials to complete ongoing projects and spend the funds allocated before March 31. He was reviewing relief projects at the zilla panchayat here on Monday. Providing details of the deliberations at the meeting, on Tuesday, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer F.R. Jamaadar said the Minister directed GESCOM and CESCO (Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Corporation) to provide power to all mini water supply schemes in the district within 15 days. Mr. Revanna said if gram panchayats did not clear bills due to GESCOM/CESCO, action would be taken against the taluk panchayat executive officer and the gram panchayat secretary.
`File criminal case'
Mr. Revanna directed Mr. Jamaadar to file criminal cases against two gram panchayat secretaries, M.B. Nutan and G. Range Gowda of Lakkur Gram Panchayat in Arakalagudu taluk, who reportedly swindled money to the tune of Rs. 3.2 lakh and were now under suspension, so it would serve as a lesson to others. Mr. Jamaadar said Mr. Revanna had expressed satisfaction over the achievement of targets. Under the rejuvenation of mini water supply schemes, 66 projects had been completed against the target of 57. In all, 122 bore wells had been drilled.
Water supply
The Minister directed GESCOM and CESCO to provide power to all drinking water supply schemes completed through the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Development Corporation, the Ganga Kalyana Yojana, the Backward Classes Development Corporation and the Minority Development Corporation within 15 days. Mr. Jamaadar said Rs. 10 crore had been spent on drinking water supply schemes in villages and Rs. 2 crore on maintenance of these schemes. The Deputy Commissioner had spent Rs. 4 crore for providing drinking water in towns, he said. The Minister directed the zilla panchayat engineering engineers to coordinate with elected representatives to tackle the drinking water problem in summer . When it was brought to the Minister's notice that the district was yet to receive funds from the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary though 13,600 houses had been sanctioned under the Ashraya scheme, Mr. Revanna directed the Deputy Commissioner to coordinate with the HUD secretary and see to it that funds were released before March 31.
Meal scheme
Mr. Jamaadar said the Minister had directed the Education Department to continue the "bisi oota" (hot meal) scheme for children during the summer holidays also. He asked the officials to gear up to tackle problems in summer such as stocking up on fodder and drilling borewells where required. Deputy Commissioner K.H. Aswathanarayana Gowda, executive engineers, superintendent engineers from GESCOM and CESCO and district-level officers attended the meeting.
