DC to issue `corrected' information on roadworks

Staff Correspondent

  • Third party inspection on road works to be carried out
  • Rs.10 crores sanctioned for beautification of the city

Belgaum: Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh has assured to issue the "corrected" information on various works proposed and taken up under World Kannada meet.

She was responding to queries on a release issued by the Belgaum City Corporation wherein the note dated February 6 had proposed to improve a road (from Ramdev Hotel to Shaik Homeopathy College) although the work was taken up much earlier.

Ms. Rajneesh, who is also Administrator of the BCC, described it as a "clerical" mistake. So did the BCC Executive and Assistant Executive Engineers.

They denied that any previously taken up works were included in the World Kannada Meet works.

The Government had sanctioned Rs.10 crores for improvement and beautification of the city following its decision to hold the meet. Minister for Horticulture and district incharge Shashikant A. Naik inspected some of the roadworks taken up for repairs.

He was reportedly convinced that the quality of roads laid only a few months ago were not up to the standard. Ms. Rajneesh said the administration had set up a third-party team to check the quality of various civic works taken up.

The team included faculty from Visvesvaraya Technological University and two engineering colleges in the city.
