Rs. 11 lakh released for school building

  • School at present functioning from a small rented building
  • Police Department to give land

BELGAUM: It was a dream come true for the Kannada organisations that have been struggling for long to get a permanent building to house the Government Kannada Medium Primary School No. 12 in the camp area in the city when Minister for Primary and Secondary Education, Basavaraj Horatti unveiled the stone plaque to mark the foundation laying ceremony for the new building on Police line on Monday.

    Three-room building

The school, which was started during 1967-68, was housed in a small and congested rented building with only three rooms.

The Kannada organisations and the media had been trying to draw the attention of the successive governments towards the plight of 100 odd children struggling for space. Games and sporting facilities were simply out of their reach.

However, the district administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Shalini Rajneesh and Mr. Horatti decided to respond to the situation. The Police Department too was willing to contribute the open piece of land in the police line in the camp area.

    Funds

Mr. Horatti, in his brief address on the occasion, said the Government had released Rs. 11 lakh for construction of a seven-room school building. He also promised to release another Rs. 3 lakh to add three more rooms.

Minister for Horticulture and district in-charge Shashikant A. Naik called upon people to join hands with the Government and cooperate with it to achieve development and progress.

Those present on the occasion included Suresh Anagdi, MP, and T.G. Doreswamy Naik, IGP, North Western Range.
