ALAPPUZHA: The M.S. Swaminathan Commission entrusted by the Union Government to submit recommendations for revival of agriculture and allied sectors in Kuttanad and preserve its ecosystem will submit its report in July, S. Bala Ravi, adviser of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, has said. Replying to questions at a press conference here, Mr. Ravi said though the Union Government had not fixed a time limit for submitting recommendations, the commission had decided on its own to set a July deadline. Mr. Ravi said the commission had formed an expert group comprising D. Ratnam, K.V. Krishna Das, R. Haily, E.J. James and Babu Ampatt. Mr. Swaminathan would visit various parts of Kuttanad from March 11 to 15. He would hold discussions with representatives of people, farmers, agricultural labourers, inland fishermen groups and other concerned. Mr. Ravi said the commission had submitted its interim report to the Union Government. District Collector K.R. Viswambharan participated in the press conference.
