Kakinada: East Godavari Collector M.Subrahmanyam has called upon various government departments and voluntary organisations to strive for creating awareness among people on the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act. Participating as the chief guest at the training programme on the provisions of the act organised by the Women and Child Development department in coordination with Police, Law, Panchayat Raj and Rural Development departments here on Tuesday, the Collector said violence against women was construed as violation of human rights and uch women should be given due respect treating them equal with men folk in all aspects.
Enforcement
Additional Superintendent of Police A V Ranga Nath said that before taking stern action for the enforcement of the act, complete awareness should be created among people on the provisions of the act that came into effect this year.
Misuse feared
He opined that there was every danger of the act being misused on the lines of SC/ST atrocities act, and advised people to see that the act was not misused. District legal authority cell secretary Narsimhulu, social activist and CEDOW president Aluri Vijayalakshmi, ICDS project officer TV Srinivas addressed the gathering.
