Dharmana Prasada Rao
HYDERABAD: Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao informed the Assembly on Tuesday that the Special Officer, Urban Land Ceiling, had taken possession of the lands belonging to the Ghatkesar Gurukul Trust, as it had violated the conditions of exemption. Replying to a question by G. Kishan Reddy (BJP) and P. Janardhan Reddy (Congress), he said the trust lands had been encroached. The then managing trustee had sold 627 acres `illegally' to individuals, institutions and housing societies. The sale was declared null and void vide a GO in September 2000 and the Government action was upheld by the High Court, he said. There was no court order to hand over the lands back to the trust. As the trust had violated conditions of exemption, the lands declared as surplus were resumed under the Urban Land (C&R) Act, 1976 in April last.
Private varsities
Higher Education Minister P. Venkateswara Rao said there were proposals to permit private universities in the State. He informed P. Keshav (TDP)that the Central rules would govern the proposed varsities.
