Inter student ends life

ELURU: M. Srinivasa Rao, a second year Intermediate student, reportedly committed suicide by hanging at his residence in Tadepalligudem on Tuesday.

Denial of hall ticket by the authorities of a corporate college was said to be the reason for his death. The victim reportedly had only 46 per cent of attendance as against 60 per cent as stipulated by the Board of Intermediate Exam. He was not allowed to appear for the exams, which commenced from Tuesday. — Staff Reporter

Offering to temple

TIRUMALA: The pontiff of Srirangam shrine Sri Ranga Narayana Jeeyar on Tuesday donated a diamond studded golden `Yagnopaveetham' to the Tirumala temple. According to the temple sources the offering was made of more than three and half kilograms of gold and costs around Rs.50 lakhs. — Staff Reporter

BJP rebels expelled

HYDERABAD: Parakala Prabhakar, former BJP spokesman and well-known television anchor, has been expelled from the BJP for contesting the elections to the Legislative Council. He is among the four partymen expelled by BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya for filing nominations from graduates' constituencies. A party press release named the others as A. Sankara Narayana, B. Acharya Aditya (both Nellore district) and N. Harish Kumar (Medak). — Special Correspondent

CPI dharna on 12th

HYDERABAD: The CPI State Council has called for dharnas on March 12 in all district and town centres demanding implementation of the Sachar Committee recommendations. After dharna party activists would submit memoranda to the Collectors, demanding renaming of the Wakf Board as commissionerate on the lines of the Endowments Department, which would empower the board to save Wakf lands from occupation, party secretary K. Plea to raise age limit

HYDERABAD: The State committee of All-India Lawyers' Union has demanded increase of the maximum age limit from 37 to 42 years for the post of assistant public prosecutors (APPs). Committee members on Tuesday sought filling of all the vacant posts of 250 APPs, instead of notifying 144. — Special Correspondent

`Punish Dalit attackers'

HYDERABAD: Mala Mahanadu has demanded stringent punishment to those responsible for attacking Dalits at Gandhinagar in Khammam district on Sunday night.

HYDERABAD: A convention of women teachers under the aegis of Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union resolved that their problems could be solved only through agitations.
