Commemoration meet

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Nayana Film Society (NFS) will be organising a P.Bhaskaran commemoration meet at the Town Hall here on Saturday. Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, NFS patron T.K.G. Nair, president Zakir Hussein and secretary T.R. Jayaram said that poet Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan would inaugurate the commemoration meet at 10 a.m. — Staff Reporter

`Corruption a hurdle'

KOLLAM: Corruption is the biggest stumbling block in the development of contemporary Kerala, the former chairman of the Kerala Public Service Commission M. Gangadhara Kurup has said. He was inaugurating the delegates' session of the 26th district conference of the Kerala Gazetted Officers' Association here on Tuesday. Kerala which was a model in many aspects should also become a model for a corruption-free civil service. The KGOA could play a big role in this connection.

C-MET seminar

THRISSUR: The Centre for Materials for Electronics Technology (C-MET), functioning under the Union Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, will hold a conference on `Smart electroceramics' here on March 8 and 9 as part of its annual day celebrations. S.B. Krupanidhi of the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, will deliver a lecture on `Playing with artificial perovskite superlattices.' — Staff Reporter

KCYM office-bearers

THRISSUR: Joshy Kunammavu and Baiju Joseph have been elected president and secretary of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement (KCYM) for 2007-2008. The other office-bearers include E.J. Shaju (vice-president), V. D. Shajan (joint-secretary), Biju Paul (treasurer), Paili Antony (captain) amd C.J. James (animator), according to a press release. — Staff Reporter
