NEKKONDA (WARANGAL DT): District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) secretary M. Kistappa encountered a different situation on Tuesday. A large number of women who turned up for a meeting requested him to speak and on. Unlike at political meetings where women begin to leave even before the chief guest completes his speech, at a meeting organised by Pragati Seva Samiti on the eve of International Women's Day here, about one thousand women listened to the judge in rapt attention. Justice Kistappa went on explaining the ill-effects of child marriages and how they affected the families. The judge said that unless people are aware of legislation, it would be of little use to society. The women, who are an exploited lot should be ready to know more about law, he observed. When Justice Kistappa concluded his speech, some of the women wanted him to tell them what is to be done when a policeman refuses to take a complaint. The women were told in detail the recourse they should take in such cases. " If you all come forward to know more about these laws, I will arrange for a legal literacy camp at the mandal headquarters," he told the gathering amidst applause.
