BERHAMPUR: Normal life was paralysed at Kodala in Ganjam district on Tuesday due to a dawn to dusk bandh call by the local Bar Association demanding establishment of a sub-judge court. One platoon of armed police was deployed at Kodala but no untoward incident was reported. The bandh disrupted vehicular traffic between Aska and Bhubaneswar.
Offices picketed
Members of the Kodala Bar Association picketed in front of the Government offices and banks in morning to close them down. But they allowed the local college to function as +2 board examinations were continuing. But hundreds of passengers were stranded at Kodala due to the bandh call. President of the Bar Association Purna Chandra Mishra said since Feb 15, they have stopped work and are staging dharna in front of the Munsif court at Kodala over the same demand. "We are demanding establishment of a Sub-judge court at Kodala since 1980 and in May 2006 the Orissa High Court has recommended the State Government to make financial arrangements for it," said Mr Mishra. Orissa High Court took this decision following an enquiry by its team to study feasibility of establishment of sub-judge court at Koadala. He also added that necessary infrastructure already exists at Kodala for its establishment. Members of the Bar Association had also met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Feb 11 over the issue. They have decided to continue their dharna in front of the local munsif court till their demand for establishment of sub-judge court at Kodala is fulfilled.
