CUTTACK: At least three shops were torched when two groups of people belonging to Khandeita and Dhanarpada villages under Cuttack Sadar police station clashed on Tuesday morning over a trivial issue. Three sections of armed police are deployed in the area, about 14 kms from here and the situation is stated to be tense but under control, police said. "The fresh squabble between the villagers on Tuesday erupted over controversy on Dola festival celebrations last week," said the local police station in-charge office Gupteswar Mahakud. No one is arrested. Investigation is on.
Youth arrested
The Malgodown police on Tuesday arrested one Raju Jena (22) near Cuttack railway station on charge of possessing three illegal firearms. Jena, a native of Sati Choura, was going towards the station when the police intercepted him and on search, two single shot and one double shot country made pistols were recovered from a bag in his possession, said Malgodown inspector P K Rath. Police are now investigating whether the seized firearms were stolen from the Cuttack Sadar court Malkhana. Police had earlier last week arrested one Sk Chhotu and recovered 21 firearms from him. All these arms were stolen from the court store room. Jena was forwarded to court from where he has been remanded in jail, Rath added.
