Kanpur: A departmental inquiry has been ordered into the release of seven gamblers from police custody allegedly due to pressure from a BSP leader, officials said on Tuesday. Sudhir Chaturvedi, the officer in-charge of Krishna Nagar outpost of Chakeri police station, had arrested the gamblers playing cards at Shivkatra on Monday night and brought them to the outpost. The kin of the gamblers and BSP leaders later approached police and demanded their release in view of the Holi festival. BSP workers also stormed the police station to press their demand. Chaturvedi allegedly released the gamblers after being pressurised by BSP leader Pinto Sengar, reports said. On learning of this, senior officials reached the police station and ordered an inquiry.
