Six suicide cases reported

A couple, a woman and three farmers die in different incidents

Muzaffarnagar: Six suicide cases were reported on Tuesday from different districts of Uttar Pradesh. A couple allegedly committed suicide at Mirzatka village near Muzaffarnagar as their parents opposed their alliance as they belonged to different castes, police said. Manoj Kumar (24) and Manju (21) ended their life by consuming poison yesterday. Kumar, who owned a shop in the village, fell in love with the girl a few months ago and they wanted to get married.

In another case, a woman allegedly committed suicide in Kanpur by shooting herself with the licensed gun of her husband on Tuesday following an argument with him over a petty issue, police said. Twentysix-year-old Kanchan Devi, wife of Hari Om Singh, had some dispute with her husband over preparing tea in the morning. Singh runs a security company. He left for Lucknow later, after which she locked the house and committed suicide by shooting herself from the double barrel gun of her husband. The police are investigating the case after sending the body for post mortem examination.

Two farmers allegedly committed suicide in Banda district due to poverty and debt, police said today. Hariya, a farmer in Ujaratha village ended his life in the village yesterday. According to his wife, he said had mortgaged his two bighas of land for Rs. 5,000 for getting his daughter married and was unable to repay the debt.

In another incident, a farmer, unable to repay the debt committed suicide yesterday at Emalipurwa village, they said. Sub-Divisional Magistrate P. K. Jain said an inquiry had been ordered into the incidents.

In another case, a farmer today allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance in Jagatpur village at Rohania in Varanasi district, police said. Munna Patel decided to end his life after a quarrel with his wife, they said. He died while being taken to hospital. His body was sent for an autopsy, police said. PTI
