NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Tuesday sentenced a man to three years' rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman in his neighbourhood four years ago. After hearing the arguments of both the prosecution and the defence, Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Narinder Pal Kaushik, held Yunus, a resident of Shahdra guilty of raping the 23 year-old-prosecutrix at gun-point and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. Surprisingly, the police in this case showed their indifference to register an First Information Report (FIR). It even tried to settle the matter between the victim and the accused by a mere sum of Rs 5,000, the court observed. But the victim and her husband after running from pillar to post got the FIR registered after two months of the bizzare incident which indeed made a question mark on the work profile of the police, the court further observed. Acording to the prosecution, the accused, Yunus and Guchchan, the husband of the victim, were known to each other since a long time.
