NEW DELHI: To bring greater transparency into the process of selection of candidates for the forthcoming elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee has appointed 12 District Congress Committee Observers. Announcing the move, DPCC president Ram Babu Sharma said these district-wise committees had been convened on the directions of the All-India Congress Committee general secretary in charge of Delhi affairs Ashok Gehlot. The presidents of the District Congress Committee would be the conveners of their respective panels. Mr. Sharma said the DPCC had adopted this selection process for the first time to encourage grassroots workers and to further promote their commitment to the party. Each observer would be required to send a panel of three to five candidates to the DPCC. He said while the presidents of the District Congress Committee would be the conveners of their respective panels, the area Member of Parliament or defeated MP candidate, MLA or defeated MLA candidate, all Block Congress Committee presidents, PCC delegates and district presidents of all frontal organisations would be the members of the committee. The 12 observers who have been appointed by the DPCC are Om Prakash Bidhuri from Babarpur district, Suresh Malik from Krishna Nagar, Ajit Singh Chadha from Adarsh Nagar, Deepak Gothi from Najafgarh, Rajender Malik from City, Dheerender Tyagi from Tilak Nagar, Mahmood Zia from New Delhi, Sunil Vohra from Rohini, Raj Kumar Kohli from Mehrauli, C.P. Mittal from Sadar, Hasan Ahmed from Karol Bagh and Naresh Kumar from Malviya Nagar.
