E-governance for CMDA by month-end: Minister

Minister, officials promise to speed up completion certificates

CHENNAI : Four months after it promised to put in place an e-governance system to enable applicants to track the status of building plans submit for approval, the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) on Tuesday said the system would be introduced by month-end.

The Minister in charge of CMDA, Parithi Ilamvazhuthi, disclosed this during an interaction with builders, architects and real estate developers to discuss steps to simplify the process.

On a suggestion that CMDA use tools such as e-governance, GIS and digital mapping, the Minister said e-governance would be in place by the end of the month.

Builders and developers said that some of the amended sections of the Development Control Rules were impractical or cumbersome. Moreover, some of the DCR provisions had become defunct, and varying interpretations led to conflicts between buyers and developers.

They wanted the Authority to issue completion certificates for buildings without delay.

The Minister and CMDA officials promised steps to issue completion certificates on time to buildings constructed in conformity with the approved plan.

Mr. Ilamvazhuthi also said if plans were in order and accompanied by the necessary documents, there would be no delay in approval.
