Subramaniam dons gloves, picks up litter on Marina
|
Chennai
: Mayor M. Subramanian donned a pair of gloves and cleared litter off the sands of the Marina on Tuesday.
Students of MOP Vaishnav College, Exnora representatives and volunteers from Satyam Foundation had invited the Mayor to inaugurate a programme to clean a small stretch of the Marina. To the delight of the participants, Mr. Subramanian joined them for about 30 minutes in collecting the litter in sacks.
The clean-up effort was part of MOP Vaishnav College's campaign to promote the city as a delightful tourist destination.
Earlier, Mr. Subramanian received 77 petitions at Ripon Buildings from residents. This was the first time he received grievance petitions after being re-elected to the post. Many of the petitions were requests for employment and pension benefits. He will meet residents at 11 a.m every Tuesday.
The Mayor said Local Administration Minister M.K. Stalin will present new fogging equipment to the Chennai Corporation on Friday.
