HYDERABAD: Association Saikorian, an alumni association of Sainik School, Korukonda, has constructed a new Krushi Home for 125 former street children at Gowdavally villager near Medchal. The facility was inaugurated by Governor Rameshwar Thakur last month. Speaking to presspersons here on Tuesday, president of the association N.V.K. Rao said the home spread over 2.5 acre campus with two dormitories was built with assistance provided by a Dutch NGO Association Friends Indeed, which contributed Rs. 70 lakh. The association was also involved in initiatives such as adoption of Government schools in the city and neighbouring Ranga Reddy District apart from community service. Seven new buildings were built by the association for Government schools apart from providing teaching and learning material, teacher training and supporting qualified teachers.
Vocational training
Anne Legeland, director, Association Friends Indeed, said the new home also provides vocational training in the field of computers, industrial sewing, welding, carpentry and the facilities would be open to children of the surrounding villages.
Funds
The foundation has raised funds through sponsor runs by Dutch schools.More sponsor runs were being planned and funds thus raised would be used to help schools in the slums, she said.
