HYDERABAD: Allegedly chased by relatives after a quarrel, a 30-year-old man ran on the railway track for his life only to be knocked down by a train at Borabanda on Tuesday. The victim Ajay Kumar died on the spot. He was a habitual drunkard and used to beat up his wife Varamma in drunken condition everyday, Sanathnagar police station Inspector M. Sridhar Reddy said. Both the families were living in Pitlabasthi of Fatehnagar. On Monday night, he returned home in an intoxicated condition and picked up an argument with his wife over a family matter. Unable to bear the torture, Varamma rushed to her parents' house seeking help. When Varamma's younger brother Sudhakar and sister's husband Bhayya intervened, Kumar hurled stones injuring them. However, they went to Kumar's house again on Tuesday morning to counsel him.
Intoxicated condition
But he was still in an intoxicated condition and once again started fighting with them. "Angered by his behaviour, Sudhakar picked up a kitchen knife from a corner and lunged at his brother-in-law," the Inspector explained. Kumar took to his heels even as his two relatives ran after him. In his anxiety to escape from his relatives, he failed to notice he was running on the railway track and an approaching train hit him.
