BANGALORE: Seven persons were injured, one seriously, after a mentally challenged man attacked them with cement bricks in K.P. Agrahara police station limits in the early hours of Tuesday. Mandi Muniyamma (75), who suffered severe head injuries, has been admitted to Victoria Hospital and she is battling for life, police said. Dasaiah (40) reportedly attacked people who were sleeping in front of their houses on Gopalapura Main Road, off Magadi Road, around 1.30 a.m. hitting them on the head with cement bricks. The public caught him and handed him over to the Magadi Road police.
Two killed
Two youths were killed after a lorry rammed their scooter on Bangalore-Mysore Highway, near Anchepalya, in Bidadi police station limits on Monday night. The dead were identified as Shashidar (21) and Mahadev (20), both from Mandya district. Shashidar worked as television cable operator at Kumbalgodu here, the police said. The Bidadi police have registered a case.
Chain snatched
Two men, who came on a motorcycle, snatched a gold chain worth Rs. 45,000 from a woman in Indiranagar police station limits on Monday. Police said that around 8.30 p.m. the motorists snatched the chain from Susheela (35) while she was walking on 6th Main, 2nd Stage, Indiranagar.
Vehicles recovered
The Kamakshipalya police have arrested Santosh Kumar (19) of Cauverypura on charges of vehicle theft and recovered from him an autorickshaw and four two-wheelers, together worth Rs. 3.5 lakh.
Sentenced
The II Fast Track Court, Bangalore Rural district, has convicted and sentenced Suresh (22) of Magadi taluk to seven years imprisonment for raping a minor girl and another seven years of imprisonment for driving her to commit suicide. According to a charge sheet filed by the police in the court, Ramesh had repeatedly raped the 15-year-old girl. A few months later when she told him that she was pregnant, he threatened to kill her if she refused to undergo abortion. On January 19, 2006, the pregnant girl doused herself with kerosene and set herself on fire. She died five days later, the charge sheet said. The same court has convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment Raghavendra (30) for murdering his wife Shoba (21). According to the charge sheet filed by the Doddaballapur Rural police in the court, on July 16, 2006, Raghavendra had strangled Shoba, a garment factory employee, and robbed her of her gold ornaments. Later, he had pledged the jewellery with a pawnbroker.
