`Pelican signals are a waste of public money'

  • Pedestrians do not the skywalks
  • Subways favoured over skywalks

Bangalore: In response to Public Eye feature on pedestrian woes, Phanishayee of Vidyapeeta Road, Banashankari 3rd Stage, 3rd Phase says: I have found that not a single vehicle stops when self-operated Pelican signals are operated on Residency Road and Indiranagar BDA complex. It is a waste of public funds to install such lights in a country where the vehicle drivers do not care about traffic rules unless there is a policeman around.

The skywalks have become useless even though designed well because pedestrians do not use them because they are high with more steps or not located nearer to spots where most people want to cross the road.

Subways may be preferred since the number of steps in it will be lesser compared to skywalk.

Srivatsa K. of ISRO Quarters, Domlur, says the Airport road near Domlur junction is a nightmare for pedestrians. There are many apartments on the Ring Road side of the junction leading to Kormangala. But the footpaths are completely absent.
