NEW DELHI: In yet another instance of a family splitting on political lines, former Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee secretary Bhim Singh, who is also the nephew of Delhi Assembly Speaker Prem Singh, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party with his supporters on Tuesday. Addressing a press conference at the Delhi BJP headquarters, he accused the Congress of adopting anti-people and anti-Indian policies and declared that only the BJP was capable of leading the country forward. Stating that all ``nationalists'' were feeling suffocated in the Congress, he said a mass exodus from the party was on the cards as people were getting increasingly disillusioned with it. On a personal note, Mr. Bhim Singh said his uncle Chaudhary Prem Singh had served the Congress since 1958 but had not been made Chief Minister of Delhi yet despite being promised the post on several occasions. ``There is no honour for the leaders connected to the masses and no man of self respect would continue in the Congress,'' he said. Formally admitting Mr. Singh into the party fold, Delhi BJP president Harsh Vardhan claimed he had been approached by a number of Congress leaders who wanted to switch sides. However, he said, they would only be admitted to the party once it has examined various aspects of their joining in.
