An irony

Parties similar to the Pune rave take place in almost all cities where there is a concentration of IT industries and in areas where well-paid youngsters stay. The irony is while westerners have started gravitating towards yoga, meditation, and the like for peaceful living, the Indian youth are keen on leading what they call a `free' life.

Parents, relatives, neighbours, and friends, besides the law-enforcing authorities, should take a bold initiative to guide the youngsters. The youth should not waste their surplus income on things that ruin their health and our culture.

R.C. Madar,
Puducherry

The phenomenal increase in the disposable income of those employed in the IT sector has given rise to great hazards. The Pune incident may well be the tip of the iceberg. Depending on the law to curtail such incidents is escapism. It is up to the parents to impart more responsibility to their own lives and set an example to their children.
