1500 checkdams for Kadapa

KADAPA: Fifteen hundred checkdams would be built in 90 new watersheds sanctioned for Kadapa district under the Centre's package for improving groundwater levels. A sum of Rs. 3 crores would be spent on digging pits with an outlay of Rs. 3 crores, including 50 per cent subsidy, district Collector M.T. Krishna Babu told an awareness meeting on watersheds for agriculture officers. Watersheds would come up in rainfall-deficient areas where farmers were in a state of distress, he said.
