NEW DELHI: The presiding officers of both Houses of Parliament on Wednesday disallowed BJP and Trinamool Congress members to raise the issue of Congress MP M. K. Subba's nationality. A television news channel said Mr. Subba, representing Tezpur in Assam in the Lok Sabha, was of foreign origin. Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, BJP deputy leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra wanted to know how a foreign national could be an MP. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee, however, said he had not given notice to raise the issue. In the Rajya Sabha, Dinesh Trivedi (Trinamool) said, "a fugitive is alleged to have become an MP. The House has the right to know." Deputy Chairman K. Rehman Khan pointed out that Mr. Subba was a member of the other House and so the issue could not be discussed in the Rajya Sabha.
