THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala Water Resources Minister N.K. Premachandran told the Assembly on Wednesday that the Government was planning to hike the cess on drinking water for non-domestic and industrial connections. He said a proposal to hike drinking water cess had been pending since 1999, but it was put off, as the Government did not want to pass the burden on to the public. Mr. Premachandran said the Kerala Water Supply and Sewerage Act would be armed with provisions to award imprisonment and penalty with a view to preventing misuse of water.
