Students should improve communication skills to get placement in information technology industry, said Arun Parwate, Principal of AVC College of Engineering, Mayiladuthurai in Nagapattinam district, on Monday. Mr. Parwate was delivering the inaugural address at the workshop on `Mainframe computing' organised by the Department of Computer Applications of the college. N. Annamalai, Technical Leader, iNautix Software, Chennai, and N. Kodeeswaran, Senior Associate, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Chennai, gave a detailed presentation on the job opportunities of Mainframe and also gave tips to the students on facing campus and other interviews. S. Selva Muthu Kumaran, Director of Computer Applications of the college, coordinated the programme.
The `Aimperum Vizha' on the campus of Government Arts College for Women in Pudukottai provided ample opportunities for the students for nearly a week to participate in some events or other of their interest and exhibit their talents. It was marked by `Women's Day', `Sports Day', `Muthamizh Vizha', convocation and college day celebrations. The Chairperson of the Pudukottai Municipal Council, U. Rama Thilagam, was the chief guest for the Women's Day celebrations. At `Muthamizh Vizha', P. Manikandan, D. Rajaram and S. Bose, enthralled the audience with their humour-filled `patti mandram.'The Registrar of Bharathidasan University, V. Radhakrishnan, gave away degree certificates to 536 students. The Collector, S. J. Chiru, and Principal, V. Jayalakshmi, spoke.
Under the auspices of Visual Communication Department of J. J. College of Arts and Science, Pudukottai, a special lecture on `From the earth to eternity' was held recently, when the noted writer and researcher, Kudavayil Balasubramanian, explained the importance of ancient architecture of the Big Temple in Thanjavur. He narrated certain anecdotes to explain the humanitarian attitude of King Raja Raja Chola. He also explained the ancient glory of Porpanaikottai near Pudukottai, which has a history dating back to several centuries.
The importance of stem cell technology has been gaining roots in the wake of its curative effects for several diseases, including Parkinson's syndrome, diabetes and cardiac problems. Highlighting this point at a lecture on `Stem cell technology' organised jointly by the Departments of Biotechnology and Biochemistry of Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College of Arts and Science for Women, Permablur, recently, the Reader, National Facility for Marine Cyanobacteria of Bharathidasan University, T. Thirunalasundari, elaborated on the sources and types of stem cells. The Heads of Department of Biotechnology and Biochemistry, R. Sasidhara and P. Manju, respectively spoke.
